Tidal and Dynamics 365 Business Central: quotes and supplier invoices without retyping

Keep Dynamics 365 Business Central for stock, buying and accounts. Tidal does the typing that happens before it: RFQs become priced quotes, supplier invoices become checked bills, and both land in Business Central once a person approves.

No change to your Business Central set up. Connected through its API or an import file.

The short answer: yes, Tidal works with Dynamics 365 Business Central. Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central is an ERP for small and mid size companies, used by many marine and industrial distributors. Tidal sits in front of it: it reads RFQs and supplier invoices, prices and checks every line, and after a person approves, creates the Sales Order or Purchase Invoice in Business Central with your own item, customer, supplier and tax codes. Works with Business Central online. For older on premise versions we use the import file route.

Two ways to connect Business Central

Pick the one your team and your IT partner are comfortable with. You can start with files and move to the API later.

Through the API

Tidal connects through the Business Central API, which creates Sales Orders and Purchase Invoices.

  • Documents appear in Business Central as soon as they are approved
  • Needs one API user with permission to create those documents
  • No files to move by hand

Through an import file

Tidal produces a file laid out for a Business Central configuration package or Excel import.

  • Your team imports in batches, for example once a day
  • No API access needed
  • Good for a first trial or a locked down set up

Tidal and Dynamics 365 Business Central, answered

Does Tidal integrate with Dynamics 365 Business Central?
Yes. Tidal sends approved quotes to Dynamics 365 Business Central as Sales Orders and approved supplier invoices as Purchase Invoices. It connects through the Business Central API, which creates Sales Orders and Purchase Invoices, or produces a file laid out for a Business Central configuration package or Excel import if you prefer to import in batches.
Do we have to change how we use Business Central?
No. Stock, purchasing, invoicing and accounts stay in Business Central exactly as today. Tidal only replaces the retyping of RFQ lines and supplier invoices.
How do Tidal items match our Business Central items?
Tidal’s catalogue stores your Business Central Item No. beside each product, so every quote line and invoice line is sent with the code Business Central already knows. The same goes for your Customer and Vendor records and tax codes.
Does anything post to our ERP without a person checking it?
No. A person approves each quote and each supplier invoice in Tidal first. Only approved documents are sent to Business Central.
Does it work with Business Central on premise?
Business Central online connects through its API. Older on premise versions can use the import file route instead. We confirm which fits on the first call.
Can we start with only one module?
Yes. Quote Desk and Invoice Capture are sold separately, and each connects to Business Central on its own.
How long does set up take?
It depends on how clean your item list and supplier price lists are. We start with a trial on your own documents, then load your catalogue and connect Business Central, and you run both side by side until you trust the results.
