Tidal and ERPNext: quotes and supplier invoices without retyping

Keep ERPNext for stock, buying and accounts. Tidal does the typing that happens before it: RFQs become priced quotes, supplier invoices become checked bills, and both land in ERPNext once a person approves.

No change to your ERPNext set up. Connected through its API or an import file.

The short answer: yes, Tidal works with ERPNext. ERPNext (built on the Frappe framework) is an open source ERP that many ship chandlers and marine suppliers run for stock, buying, selling and accounts. Tidal sits in front of it: it reads RFQs and supplier invoices, prices and checks every line, and after a person approves, creates the Sales Order or Purchase Invoice in ERPNext with your own item, customer, supplier and tax codes. Works the same way on Frappe Cloud and on a self hosted ERPNext.

What Tidal creates in ERPNext

Two documents, each with the codes ERPNext already uses.

Two ways to connect ERPNext

Pick the one your team and your IT partner are comfortable with. You can start with files and move to the API later.

Through the API

Tidal connects through ERPNext’s REST API, which creates documents such as Sales Order and Purchase Invoice directly.

  • Documents appear in ERPNext as soon as they are approved
  • Needs one API user with permission to create those documents
  • No files to move by hand

Through an import file

Tidal produces a CSV or Excel file laid out for ERPNext’s Data Import tool.

  • Your team imports in batches, for example once a day
  • No API access needed
  • Good for a first trial or a locked down set up

What you can connect to ERPNext

Each module is sold on its own.

Quote Desk

RFQs read in any buyer layout, every line priced from your catalogue and supplier prices, and the approved quote sent to ERPNext as a Sales Order.

Invoice Capture

Supplier invoices sent as a photo or PDF are read line by line, checked, approved by a person and created in ERPNext as a Purchase Invoice.

Tidal and ERPNext, answered

Does Tidal integrate with ERPNext?
Yes. Tidal sends approved quotes to ERPNext as Sales Orders and approved supplier invoices as Purchase Invoices. It connects through ERPNext’s REST API, which creates documents such as Sales Order and Purchase Invoice directly, or produces a CSV or Excel file laid out for ERPNext’s Data Import tool if you prefer to import in batches.
Do we have to change how we use ERPNext?
No. Stock, purchasing, invoicing and accounts stay in ERPNext exactly as today. Tidal only replaces the retyping of RFQ lines and supplier invoices.
How do Tidal items match our ERPNext items?
Tidal’s catalogue stores your ERPNext Item code beside each product, so every quote line and invoice line is sent with the code ERPNext already knows. The same goes for your Customer and Supplier records and tax codes.
Does anything post to our ERP without a person checking it?
No. A person approves each quote and each supplier invoice in Tidal first. Only approved documents are sent to ERPNext.
Does it work with Frappe Cloud and self hosted ERPNext?
Yes. The connection uses ERPNext’s own REST API or its Data Import tool, which are the same on Frappe Cloud and on a server you run yourself. We need an API user with permission to create the documents you want Tidal to send.
Can we start with only one module?
Yes. Quote Desk and Invoice Capture are sold separately, and each connects to ERPNext on its own.
How long does set up take?
It depends on how clean your item list and supplier price lists are. We start with a trial on your own documents, then load your catalogue and connect ERPNext, and you run both side by side until you trust the results.
